Choosing, Booking and Arriving
Start here if you are deciding where to book, how much time you need or which therapist may be the best fit.
What should I expect during my first visit?+
After booking through Vagaro, you will complete the intake information provided there. At the studio, your therapist will talk with you about your health history, current concerns, comfort preferences and goals before the hands-on portion begins. You can ask questions, request adjustments and share feedback throughout the appointment.
See the complete first-visit guideHow do I choose the right therapist?+
Each Relief Bodyworks therapist brings different experience, pressure preferences and areas of interest, but every session follows the same personalized approach. Review the team profiles for current availability and working locations, then choose the person whose style sounds most aligned with your needs. If you are unsure, contact the studio for help narrowing the choice.
Meet the Relief Bodyworks teamCan I request a specific therapist?+
Yes. You may book directly with the available therapist you prefer, and you are also welcome to work with more than one team member as your schedule or needs change. Vagaro shows current availability; therapists who are not accepting new clients will not display a new-client booking option.
Compare therapist approachesWhich Overland Park location should I choose?+
Choose the studio that is most convenient and has the therapist or appointment time you want. The North studio is on Barkley Street near I-435 and Metcalf; the South studio is inside Fitness Alliance near 155th and Metcalf. Both provide private, appointment-only therapeutic massage.
Compare both locationsHow long should my appointment be?+
A 30-minute session is best for one focused area. Sixty minutes works well for a primary concern or a customized full-body session, while 75 to 90 minutes gives the therapist more time for several areas and a gradual pace. A 120-minute appointment provides the most time for complex or whole-body goals.
Compare session lengths and pricesDo you accept walk-ins?+
No. Relief Bodyworks is appointment-only so each therapist can prepare for the client and provide uninterrupted care. Current schedules vary by therapist and location, so Vagaro is the most accurate place to see open appointment times before visiting either studio.
Choose a location and bookWhat is the cancellation policy?+
Relief Bodyworks asks for at least 24 hours’ notice when you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be subject to the policy and fee displayed during Vagaro booking. Review the current terms before confirming because the booking system contains the controlling appointment policy.

Pressure, Techniques and Preferences
You do not have to diagnose yourself or arrive knowing the name of a massage technique.
What makes Relief Bodyworks different?+
Relief Bodyworks does not build appointments around rigid, one-size-fits-all routines. Your therapist begins with what you are feeling and what you want to improve, then combines appropriate techniques around your comfort, health history and goals that day. The approach can change from one visit to the next because your body and priorities can change too.
Explore the personalized service modelDo I need to choose a massage modality?+
No. You are not responsible for deciding whether you need Swedish massage, trigger point work, myofascial techniques, stretching or another method. Explain where you feel tension, what has been limiting you and how you want to feel afterward. Your therapist will select and adjust the techniques that make sense within their training and scope.
See how customized sessions workDo you provide deep-tissue massage?+
Therapists may incorporate deeper, focused pressure when it fits the client’s goals and comfort. Deep work is not automatically better, and an effective therapeutic session should not require you to tolerate sharp or overwhelming pain. Pressure is adjusted through ongoing communication and the way your body responds.
Learn about massage for chronic tensionWill therapeutic massage be painful?+
Therapeutic massage can involve focused pressure and may bring awareness to tender tissue, but it should remain within a range you can comfortably process. You are encouraged to speak up immediately if pressure feels sharp, causes guarding or makes it difficult to relax. Your therapist can change pressure, technique, position or pacing at any time.
Learn what to expect during your sessionCan I ask for a quiet session?+
Absolutely. Some clients prefer conversation, while others want silence or only occasional check-ins. Tell your therapist what helps you settle, including preferences around music, room temperature, pressure and conversation. Creating a comfortable environment is part of personalizing the appointment, not an inconvenience.
Explore massage for stress recoveryHow often should I receive massage therapy?+
The right schedule depends on your goals, budget, activity level and how your body responds. Someone working through a demanding period may choose weekly or biweekly appointments for a time, while maintenance clients may schedule every three to six weeks. Your therapist can suggest a reasonable rhythm without pressuring you into unnecessary visits.

Pain, Stress, Pregnancy, Recovery and MLD
Learn what each service pathway is designed to support, along with its practical limits.
Is massage only for people who are injured?+
Not at all. Massage is beneficial for stress management, improved sleep, athletic recovery, mobility, posture, injury prevention, and overall wellness—not just pain relief.
Is massage appropriate when I am in pain?+
Many clients seek massage for recurring muscle tension, everyday aches, headaches, restricted movement or stress-related discomfort. The therapist adapts the session around your comfort and relevant health history. New, severe, unexplained or rapidly worsening pain should be medically evaluated before massage rather than treated as routine muscle tension.
Read about pain and chronic tensionCan massage help with headache-related tension?+
Massage may help when headaches are associated with tension in the neck, shoulders, upper back, scalp or jaw. Your therapist can work with those surrounding areas and adjust pressure carefully. Headaches can have many causes, so sudden, severe, unusual or persistent symptoms require appropriate medical evaluation.
Explore focused tension reliefHow can massage support stress recovery?+
Stress can show up physically as shallow breathing, jaw tension, tight shoulders, restlessness or difficulty settling. A slower, customized session may support relaxation, body awareness and a temporary shift away from a high-alert state. Massage does not treat a mental-health condition, but it can be one practical part of a broader self-care plan.
Learn about stress-recovery massageCan massage support injury recovery and mobility?+
When massage is appropriate for the stage of recovery, it may help reduce protective muscle tension, support comfortable movement and ease post-activity soreness. The therapist can adapt the session around restrictions from your physician or rehabilitation provider. Massage does not diagnose an injury or replace physical therapy, imaging or medical treatment.
Read about recovery and mobility supportCan massage be combined with physical therapy or chiropractic care?+
Often it can, provided the services are appropriate for your condition and your treating providers have not given conflicting instructions. Tell your massage therapist what other care you are receiving, what movements are restricted and what your providers have recommended. Coordinated information helps the therapist avoid working against your recovery plan.
See how massage fits a recovery planHow is prenatal massage adapted?+
Prenatal sessions are adjusted around your stage of pregnancy, health information and comfort. Side-lying or otherwise supported positioning, bolsters and professional draping help reduce strain while the therapist modifies pressure and areas of focus. If your pregnancy is high-risk or you have medical concerns, ask your healthcare provider whether massage is appropriate before booking.
Explore personalized prenatal massageWhat is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?+
Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or MLD, uses gentle, rhythmic movements intended to support the natural movement of lymphatic fluid. It is much lighter than deep-tissue massage and is performed by a therapist with relevant training. At Relief Bodyworks, MLD is available with Adelaine in 60- or 90-minute sessions with a $20 upgrade.
Learn about Manual Lymphatic DrainageCan I book MLD after surgery?+
Possibly, but the timing and appropriateness depend on the procedure, your current condition and your medical provider’s guidance. Relief Bodyworks does not promise post-surgical outcomes or replace medical care. Obtain clearance when required and share relevant restrictions so Adelaine can determine whether the request fits within her scope of practice.

Draping, Health Information and Practical Policies
Your comfort, privacy and informed participation remain important throughout the visit.
What should I wear, and how does draping work?+
Wear whatever is comfortable for arriving and leaving. During the session, you undress only to your personal comfort level and remain professionally draped. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and you can ask for a change in positioning, coverage or technique at any time.
See the complete comfort guideWhere do I provide health-history information?+
Health history and massage intake information are completed through Vagaro after booking, not through the public contact form. Give accurate information about relevant conditions, medications, recent procedures, injuries and provider restrictions so the therapist can prepare and decide whether any modification or clearance is needed.
Review the booking and intake processWhen should massage be postponed?+
Massage should generally wait when you have a fever, contagious illness, suspected blood clot, acute unexplained swelling, a new serious injury or symptoms that require medical assessment. Recent surgery and certain health conditions may require provider clearance. If you are uncertain, contact your healthcare provider and the studio before the appointment.
Contact Relief Bodyworks with questionsIs it normal to feel sore afterward?+
Mild, short-lived tenderness can occur after focused work, especially when an area has been tense or sensitive. Significant pain, bruising, numbness or symptoms that continue or worsen are not something to ignore. Tell your therapist during the session when pressure feels excessive and seek appropriate medical advice for concerning symptoms.
Learn about comfortable therapeutic pressureIs massage covered by insurance?+
Relief Bodyworks does not bill insurance. Some clients may be able to use eligible HSA or FSA funds, depending on their plan and the documentation required. Confirm coverage and payment rules directly with your plan administrator before assuming a session will qualify for reimbursement.
Read practical first-visit informationIs Relief Bodyworks a spa?+
Relief Bodyworks is a therapeutic massage studio rather than a day spa. The environment is warm, peaceful and intentionally comfortable, but the service is centered on personalized massage, functional goals and long-term wellness—not a menu of cosmetic or spa treatments.
Learn about the studio and teamDo I need to download or bring an intake form?+
No. The old downloadable website intake form is no longer part of the process. After you schedule, Vagaro provides the current intake information associated with your appointment. Completing it before arrival gives your therapist time to review relevant details and protects health information from being sent through a general website form.
